Connectors are students & staff who have been fully trained to support students who are feeling isolated, lonely or need support with becoming more integrated in the student community. The support that student & staff Connectors can provide is slightly different.

What support can staff Connectors provide?

  • Staff Connectors are trained in Youth Mental Health First Aid

  • They can offer information & signposting to students who feel they need more support

  • They can tell students more about the services available in their institution and in the community

  • They can help students to get in touch with a Student Connector for more support

  • They will share positive messages, campaigns and updates on Connect & University events

  • Take feedback from students on what additional support would be welcomed at their institution and feedback to project staff

  • What support can Student Connectors provide?

  • Student Connectors are fully trained before they start their roles

  • They can provide a listening ear to other students who are struggling with isolation or loneliness.

  • They can accompany students to society/University events if they are nervous about going alone (subject to lifting of current restrictions)

  • They can help students to get together as a group and support each other

  • They will share positive messages, campaigns and information about campus events

  • They can signpost or give information on what other support services are available on and off campus

  • What don’t Connectors do?

    Connectors are not trained as counsellors, therapists or doctors. They cannot give advice on or diagnose mental health problems. If you feel that you or another student need professional support, you can find out what support your institution offers on our University pages
