CONNECT is a wellbeing project for university students at Swansea University and University of Wales Trinity Saint David. Through working with staff & students, our aim is to enhance wellbeing and create supportive communities, to lay the foundations for lifelong positive and healthy behaviours. Our vision is that all students will feel, and will be, connected.
CONNECT offers a peer support service, which is a safe & confidential space for students to talk to other students. Our Connectors are great listeners. They understand what support and services are available within the university, to guide students in the right direction.
Any student who would like to chat to a Student Connector is welcome to register. Although university can be an amazing experience, we understand that it can be nerve-wracking & lonely to begin with and over- or underwhelming at times. Not all students click with a friendship group or have the time to make good friendships. Our peer support service provides a place for students to connect with other students. CONNECT is open to any student who is enrolled at Swansea University or University of Wales Trinity Saint David, no matter where you are or what you study.
Staff across both universities are involved in the development and delivery of the CONNECT Project. We offer Mental Health First Aid training to existing, student-facing staff in the universities, who are willing to support the project as ‘Staff Connectors’. Our aim is to upskill staff, so they feel confident in dealing with any issues that arise.
The CONNECT project was funded by Higher Education Funding Council for Wales (HEFCW) until July 2021. The project currently sits within the Student Services Department of each university and is offered as part of current wellbeing services.
Swansea University Student’s Union and University of Wales Trinity Saint David’s Student’s Union have helped to shape the project, so the needs of students at each university are reflected. We are working collaboratively to identity new wellbeing initiatives for students at both universities.
CONNECT also works with several further education colleges to create and deliver content for the transition to university. Our existing partners are: Gower College, Neath Port Talbot College, Coleg Sir Gar, Coleg Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire College.
